to ponder what others think...

This week over at My Home Truths we are confessing what our friends and family think of our blog. I have kind of already touched on this in a previous confession.

But really I am not entirely sure what my family and friends think of my blog. For the most part they don't comment so it's hard to really tell if they even read it. That's the thing about blogging and putting it all out there on the internet, unless people comment, you never really know who is reading. My blog is not something I really talk about with family and friends either, so on the odd ocassion when I might remark about something I have blogged about I am sometimes surprised when they respond with 'Oh yeah I read that on your blog'...

So I must confess that even though they may never comment and we may rarely talk about it, I am always aware that they may just be reading, and that is why, at times I hold back.

I think even in my early stages of blogging I have become to aware of my audience. When I am writing I am writing generally knowing who is likely to be reading and therefore write 'to you' as opposed to 'for me'.

I came up with the 'It's time..' as my title for the blog very easily and quickly because it seemed like it was time for me to start to focus on me.

I want to write for me, I want to write from the heart, I want to write with no inhibitions, I want to write the truth, I want to write without fear of being ridiculed and judged, I want to write my story, my truth, my perspective without care for anyone else, I want to write......

but I can't.

Because in life it's not as easy as that, in life there are things we need to keep private, other people's feelings that may get hurt, whether I like it or not...it's not all about me.. and once you click that publish button, it's there....for anyone.....everyone.....to see and once the words are written they cannot be unwritten....

What do your nearest and dearest think of your blog? Are you a carefree writer or do you keep some things close to your chest?

  1. ".....to see and once the words are written they cannot be unwritten...." so true, and worth reminding our kids of this on FB (some adults too) and all other social media...

  2. My family and friends are very much the same, I always get a huge shock when I mention something that has happened (that I've also blogged about) and they reply oh yeah I read that on your blog. Perhaps our friends and family need a lesson on how to comment?

Miss 12 is guest blogging for me today, she really took the whole thing in her stride and basically needed no introduction at all.

  3. A couple of my friends read and regularly comment on my blog. I do keep a few things to myself because I don't want to deal with the potential fallout that they could create. It's just not worth it.

  4. Yes I agree, because I know that family and friends sometimes read my blog there are certain things I would keep to myself. I mainly wanted it to be a fun outlet anyway, rather than anything deep and meaningful so I guess it works for me.

  5. I do mostly pics on my blog and have kept pics of my kids off there until this week. The reason I did it is because my daughter is now a legal adult and I decided to give her a shout out on how proud I was of her.

A lot of my friends don't know I blog at all. I have kept that really separate in my life. My blog is something that to me is mine and I don't want people I work with or hang out with be critical of something that I do as a stress relief. I know that sounds strange but it is me.

  6. I am way too honest because I always forget who is reading my blog. It still freaks me out when a family member or friend comments about something they read on my blog, I'm like wow you read that. It's a little scary that my friends and family my know whats going on inside my head, but I write for me and for me its very therapeutic.

  7. I always hold back a little, particularly with things that are not mine alone to share. I guess blogging is all about putting it out there so I'm very careful in what I put out there. I want to let you know that I've always loved the name of your blog and I like it a lot more now you've explained it's origins!

  8. I'm reasonably carefree - which does make for awkward moments in the schoolyard as a lot of the mums read it and I can never tell who has and who hasn't! But like Kirsty I don't share things that aren't mine to share which is why I'm sketchy with details about hubby and the escapades of his younger days.

  9. I tend to leave my kids off the blog for privacy reasons,(I don't even FB their pics) But I have started to let go on my blog but random things I that I don't care who reads or not. I think holding back is the responsible thing to do in some circumstances.

  10. My hubby gets the email each day that I post, he doesn't always read but just knowing he COULD helps me to set boundaries of what I should and shouldn't share!
